About us

An independent outlet about RPGs — Western and Japanese alike, no fake neutrality.

What Is Chronicles of RPG?

Chronicles of RPG exists because most RPG reviews sound the same — smoothed down until they say nothing, careful not to upset a publisher or a reader. We go the other way: a clear, argued opinion on every game we cover, Western RPGs and JRPGs alike, from blockbuster releases to overlooked indies.

There's no editorial committee here — every review carries one voice and one set of priorities, and it says so. We'd rather you disagree with a review that means something than nod along to one that means nothing.

How We Score

Every review ends in a score out of 10, and we try to make that score mean the same thing from one review to the next:

9–10Editor's Pick — an experience that stays with you.
7–8.9Recommended, minor reservations aside.
5–6.9Decent, but with flaws that matter.
<5Skip it, unless it hits a very specific interest.

No score is inflated to spare a publisher or a studio, and nothing gets a free pass just because a marketing calendar says it should.
